The Pygmalion Effect to be presented at the Bolshoi Theatre

From July 25 to 27, the Company will present its 2019 production The Pygmalion Effect at the Bolshoi Theatre Historic Stage. The Moscow premiere of the ballet will be held as the part of the International Chereshnevy Les Open-Art Festival. Moscow run of Eifman Ballet to draw a line under its 42nd season.

The world premiere of the comic ballet The Pygmalion Effect took place on February 6 in St. Petersburg. The production is set to the music of Johann Strauss the Son. Combining expressive means of psychological ballet theatre and ballroom dancing plastique, Boris Eifman addresses a number of philosophical, ethical and social issues.

In May and June, the Company toured with the production in the U.S. Dance connoisseurs from Chicago, Costa Mesa, Berkeley and New York gave it ovation. Chicago Tribune described the production's dancing as “brilliant” and “exceptional”. The Pygmalion Effect will be the seventh ballet by Boris Eifman that is brought to Moscow with the support of Chereshnevy Les. In May 2012, the ballet Rodin, Her Eternal Idol premiered at the Festival. In October 2013, during Chereshnevy Les Moscow audience saw Beyond Sin, a choreographic interpretation of Dostoevsky’s novel The Brothers Karamazov, for the first time. A year later, in collaboration with the Festival, the Company presented the ballet Requiem in Moscow, and in the fall of 2015 – brought Up & Down. October 2016 was marked with the Moscow premiere of Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA. In July 2017, the partnership of Eifman Ballet with Chereshnevy Les continued: the capital was able to appreciate new choreographic version of the legendary ballet Russian Hamlet. All the tours took place on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre (except for the performances of 2017, the venue of which was the Historic Stage).
