The Company’s creative life in the second half of the 2018–2019 season

January
Preparations for the premiere of The Pygmalion Effect
Studio and stage rehearsals of Boris Eifman’s new work, a choreographic interpretation of the myth about the sculptor who fell in love with his creation, a statue of a beautiful girl, continued throughout the month. The production, set to music by Johann Strauss the Son, is the choreographer’s first work in the genre of comedy in recent years.
February
February 6, 26 and 27 – world premiere of The Pygmalion Effect ballet at the Alexandrinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg
February 12 and 13 – the tour in Doha with Anna Karenina
The performances took place within the framework of Qatar–Russia Year of Culture 2018. This ballet by Boris Eifman based on Leo Tolstoy’s novel was previously performed with great success in other Gulf countries – Bahrain and Oman.
March
March 4 and 5 – performances at the Alexandrinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg (The Pygmalion Effect)
March 9 – performance of Beyond Sin in Tallinn
March 11 and 12 – the tour in Yekaterinburg with Anna Karenina
March 15 and 16 – the tour in Nizhny Novgorod with Anna Karenina
March 19, 20, 25 and 26 – performances at the Alexandrinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg (Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA and Rodin, Her Eternal Idol)
On March 19 and 20 St. Petersburg audience will be able to see the production about the great composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Rodin, Her Eternal Idol will be performed on March 25 and 26.
April
April 1 and 2 – performances of Russian Hamlet at the Alexandrinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg
April 22–25 – tour of South Caucasus
On April 22 and 23 the Company will perform Rodin, Her Eternal Idol in Tbilisi. On April 25 Eifman Ballet will participate in the Mstislav Rastropovich International Festival in Baku.
May
May 9 – start of the large-scale North American tour with Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA and The Pygmalion Effect, with opening performances in Toronto (May 9, 10 and 11), followed by Chicago, Costa Mesa and Berkeley
Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA will feature in the playbill in Canada. American audiences will see the The Pygmalion Effect.
June
June 1–9 – continuation of the North American tour (Berkeley, New York)
July
July 13–21 July – Japan tour (with Anna Karenina and Rodin, Her Eternal Idol)
The tour will include Kyoto (July 13), Shizuoka (July 15) and Tokyo (July 18–21). In the first location the Company will present Anna Karenina. Rodin, Her Eternal Idol will be shown In Shizuoka. Ballet fans in the Japanese capital will enjoy both productions. This will be the first tour of the Company to Japan in the last twenty years.
July 25–27 – performances of The Pygmalion Effect at the Bolshoi Theatre Historic Stage in Moscow
The premiere of Boris Eifman’s new production in the capital will take place within the International Chereshnevy Les Open Art Festival.
