The Company to make a series of shows in New York
In the first half of June Eifman Ballet will tour in New York. The performances will be held at New York City Center. The new choreographic version of the famous ballet Red Giselle (June 2, 3, 4) and 2016 premiere Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA (June 9, 10, 11) are on the programme of the Company’s New York season.
New York City Center hosted repeatedly performances of Eifman Ballet. The Company made its New York debut at this prestigious venue in April 1998. 19 years ago two US premieres were brought to the local dance connoisseurs – the first version of Red Giselle (created in the end of 1990s) and Tchaikovsky (1993), an artistic predecessor of Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA. The debut was crowned with a real triumph. “A ballet world in search of a major choreographer need search no more. He is Boris Eifman,” wrote The New York Times in the Red Giselle review.
The last Eifman Ballet’s appearance at City Center took place in May 2015. Two years ago the New York spectators saw for the first time the ballet Up & Down based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel Tender Is the Night. The production was met with stormy ovations.
New York performances of Eifman Ballet will continue the long North American tour that commenced on May 11. It’s dedicated to 40th anniversary the Company is celebrating this year. In the last several weeks the St. Petersburg dancers performed in Toronto, Minneapolis and Chicago where revised Red Giselle was presented with tremendous success. The Company is currently touring in Boston. Ardani Artists is the promoter of the 2017 tour, as well as of all the previous North American tours of Eifman Ballet.
The Canadian and the US press gave the new version of the legendary ballet enthusiastic reviews. Chicago Tribune called Red Giselle “a psychological thriller of epic proportions, ambitious in scale and boasting masterful execution of incredibly difficult choreography”. Musical Toronto characterizes the performance as “one of the most emotionally powerful and deeply engaging contemporary pieces”.
