On March 23 and 24, Eifman Ballet will perform in Astana. The performances will take place at the State Opera and Ballet Theatre “Astana Opera”, the largest theatrical venue in Central Asia.

The tour in Kazakhstan will be a follow-on of the Company’s series of performances in Uzbekistan (Tashkent) and Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek) which take place in the first half of March. Eifman Ballet came to Tashkent with the productions Eugene Onegin and The Pygmalion Effect. Spectators in Bishkek, where the Company has never toured before in its 46-year history, will have the opportunity to appreciate the choreographic psychodrama Anna Karenina.

Russian Seasons is a large-scale annual project to present Russian culture abroad. The themes and format of the Russian Seasons events are varied, from classical music concerts and theatrical performances to film festivals, art exhibitions and educational projects. In total, throughout its existence Russian Seasons conquered more than 13 million spectators!

The symbol of the project is the Firebird, a character from Russian folk tales, personifying light, warmth, good luck and rebirth. The Firebird was also the name of Igor Stravinsky’s one-act ballet. It was written for the 1910 Paris season of Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes company and was a triumph. The mission of the international cultural project Russian Seasons is to present Russia as a country that carefully preserves and develops the richest cultural heritage and traditions.
