Boris Eifman will create a screen version of his famous ballet about Prince Paul

From January 14 to January 25 the shooting of the screen version of the legendary production of Eifman Ballet Russian Hamlet, dedicated to the tragic fate of Prince Paul, afterwards Paul I of Russia, will take place at DK Lensoveta (St. Petersburg). The choreographer himself to be the director of the film.
Sergei Trofimov, one of the most reputable and sought-after figures in the nowadays Russian film industry, will act as director of photography. His extensive filmography includes such successful films and TV series as Night Watch, Day Watch, The Irony of Fate 2, Gogol, Vertinsky, Patient Zero, Monastery. In the summer of 2022, Sergei Trofimov participated in the shooting of the screen ballet of Boris Eifman Molière Passion, or The Mask of Don Juan.
“The combination of the expressive possibilities of ballet art with modern film technologies gives rise to an intrinsically valuable aesthetic phenomenon, the choreographic cinema. Our productions in their high-quality screen incarnation acquire a new artistic dimension,” Boris Eifman notes.
In the main parts, the audience will see the stars of the Company, laureates of the Golden Mask and Golden Soffit theatrical awards, President of Russia’s Prize and the Russian Government prize: Honored Artist of Russia Maria Abashova (The Empress), Honored Artist of Russia Oleg Gabyshev (The Heir), Lyubov Andreyeva (The Wife of the Heir), Artyom Lepkov (Favorite of the Empress), Igor Subbotin (The Ghost of the Heir’s Father).
Russian Hamlet is the ninth Boris Eifman’s screen ballet in recent years. In 2010–2022 the screen versions of the productions _Anna Karenin_a (2010), Eugene Onegin (2010), Rodin, Her Eternal Idol (2012), Beyond Sin (2013), Up & Down (2016), Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA (2017), The Pygmalion Effect (2020), Molière Passion, or The Mask of Don Juan (2022) were created. The Company’s screen ballets were broadcast by the Russian national TV and by European TV channel Mezzo a number of times. In 2019–2020 the screen ballet The Brothers Karamazov (the film version of the production Beyond Sin) was shown in the cinemas of Russia, the USA, United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, Belarus and other countries as part of TheatreHD and Stage Russia HD projects, and was also shown online at international festivals in Mexico, Brazil and China. In 2022–2023 thanks to the continued cooperation between Eifman Ballet and TheatreHD, viewers in more than 70 cities of our country and neighboring countries will enjoy the screen ballet Rodin.
