The ballet Crime and Punishment will become a film

January is a time that the Company traditionally devotes to creating new works of choreographic cinema. The first month of 2026 will be no exception.

January 13 marks the start of the shooting in St. Petersburg of the screen ballet Crime and Punishment. Boris Eifman is set to direct and produce the project, continuing his practice of bringing the Eifman Ballet’s repertoire titles to the screen. The distinguished filmmaker Nikita Rozhdestvensky will assume the position of director of photography, having collaborated a year prior on the cinematic adaptation of the production The Seagull. A Ballet Story.

The main characters of the choreographic interpretation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s brilliant novel will be performed in the film by the Company stars: Vladimir Afonichkin (Raskolnikov), Daniil Afonichkin (Raskolnikov’s Shadow), Lyubov Andreyeva (Sonya Marmeladova), Dmitry Fisher (Porfiry Petrovitch), Sergey Volobuev (Svidrigailov), Victoria Mokrousova (Dunya), Polina Pavlenko (Raskolnikov’s Mother), Yulia Shunkova (Old Pawnbroker Woman).
