In honor of its anniversary, Eifman Ballet will bring to Moscow The Seagull. A Ballet Story

At the end of July, the long-awaited tour of Eifman Ballet will take place on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. The Company will please the audience with the Moscow premiere of the production The Seagull. A Ballet Story released in 2022 (July 27 and 28), as well as with the choreographic hit Rodin, Her Eternal Idol (July 29). The performances will be held as part of the Chereshnevy Les Open-Art Festival and will be dedicated to the 45th anniversary of Eifman Ballet.

The Seagull. A Ballet Story, a new choreographic interpretation of the immortal play by Anton Chekhov, was previously performed only in St. Petersburg and got the most admiring appreciation of dance lovers. Rodin, Her Eternal Idol is well known to the Moscow audience. The fruitful cooperation between Eifman Ballet and Chereshnevy Les began with the showing of this production in Moscow 10 years ago, in May 2012.

The Seagull. A Ballet Story is the ninth premiere that Eifman Ballet brings to Moscow in partnership with the Festival. In 2012–2021 thanks to Chereshnevy Les, Moscow spectators saw such productions by Boris Eifman as Rodin, Her Eternal Idol; Beyond Sin; Requiem; Up & Down; Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA; Russian Hamlet (new choreographic version); The Pygmalion Effect; Molière Passion, or The Mask of Don Juan.

The Moscow tour will continue the celebration of the Company’s 45th anniversary which began in June in St. Petersburg with a large series of performances. In addition, the exhibition “Eifman Ballet. Only Love” showing the colorful creative path of the choreographer and his artists opened on June 29 at the Sheremetev Palace – Museum of Music, a branch of the St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music. The grand finale of the anniversary celebrations will be the Company’s gala concerts at the Oktyabrskiy Big Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, scheduled for September 29 and 30. It is symbolic that it was on this stage exactly 45 years ago, on September 29, 1977, that the first public performance of Eifman Ballet took place.
